The Simply Better task list can be daunting.
Face it, it’s easy to find simple things to do. We can all write down 25 simple things to do to make our lives better.
One of the big challenges of Simply Better living is organizing and deciding where to start.
Years ago, I came across an organizing tool from a motivational speaker named Zig Ziglar. Ziglar was a salesman, turned author and motivational speaker who enjoyed a long and successful career. He passed in 2012 but his family has continued in the personal/corporate development business using the Ziglar company name.
Ziglar used an organizational tool called the Zig Ziglar Wheel of Life which has been extremely helpful in organizing my Simply Better tasks.
The Wheel of Life breaks everything down to seven categories: career, financial, spiritual, physical, intellectual, family and social.
Virtually everything we do AND every Simply Better task falls in one of these categories.
The goal is to make this wheel perfectly round.
As I looked at (and continue to look at) my world, my wheels are not completely round…imagine that on a car or bike.
Initially, I did well in the family and career categories, probably did alright in spiritual and social; and had flats in financial, physical and intellectual.
I am a single father and take a lot of pride in the solid job I have done with my kids; and I’m likewise very content with my career. For years, ALL my time and energy went into those two. And while I don’t regret the effort in those, the others suffered.
As life has evolved some of those other categories have raised up and shown me there were (and are) flat. Those categories needed some attention to give me a smoother ride in life.
How are you doing in those categories?
Are there categories that you struggle with more than others?
Might I suggest those as a starting spot on that daunting list of Simply Better tasks.
